IN a first for a Chinese restaurant, Yu Alderley Edge has created a premium gastronomic event, Odyssey of Taste, which will bring some of the north west’s finest chefs to the village to collaborate with executive chef Victor Yu for one night each.

The launch of this highly anticipated event follows Yu’s recent plaudits, winning Restaurant of the Year at the Cheshire Life Food and Drink Awards less than a year after opening.

At the Legacy of Taste Awards in London, Yu was awarded the Tier 3 Pagoda, the highest possible accolade, as one of only six Chinese restaurants in the UK and the only restaurant outside of London to have this distinction.

In addition, in the 2016 Square Meal Top 100 Restaurants, Yu was in 44th place, as the only Chinese restaurant to make it into the top 100.

Nigel Haworth, chef patron of the Michelin-starred Northcote Manor in the Ribble Valley, will open the event on Tuesday, October 4, joining Victor Yu in the kitchen to provide guests with a bespoke menu, created especially for the evening.

Steven Smith, chef owner of The Freemasons at Wiswell, the Good Food Guide’s No.1 Pub two years in succession, will pick up the mantle on Wednesday, October 5. As well as The Freemasons’ accolade in The Good Food Guide, the pub has seen recognition from all areas of the industry, including taking sixth place in the Top 50 Gastropubs, being shortlisted for The Catey’s Menu of the Year Awards and winning the Visit England Tourism Pub of the Year.

Lisa Allen, executive head chef at Northcote Manor, and winner of Great British Menu in 2010, will finish the series in style on Thursday, October 13. Lisa’s passion for local produce and regional cooking led her to win such accolades as “Best Chef of The Year” at The Northern Hospitality Awards in 2008 and reaching the finals of “The Roux Scholarship” and “Young Chef Young Waiter” competitions.

Tickets for these highly-anticipated collaborations are £90 per head and are on sale now.

There will be no a la carte available over the course of these three nights.

Victor said: “We’re extremely excited to have some of the north west’s finest chefs come to Yu Alderley Edge and cook for our customers.

"I’ll be working alongside all three chefs, to create a bespoke fusion menu available for one night only. These collaborations are extremely rare in Chinese restaurants and we’re proud to be forging the path.

"We’re confident Odyssey of Taste will be extremely well attended and I’m looking forward to having all three extremely talented chefs in my kitchen in October.”

Menus for each night will be emailed directly to guests in the run-up to the event.
