IF the mill walls at Quarry Bank could talk they would no doubt have some spooky stories to tell.

And this Hallowe'en – as ghosts and ghouls come out to play in the mill – some scary tales will indeed be told during the annual Spooky Tours.

“This year is going to be the spookiest, scariest tour ever,” said Ellen Fenton, Visitor Programmes and Formal Learning Manager at Quarry Bank.

“It is sure to send shivers down spines and chills through bones.”

The age limit has been raised to 13 for this year’s Spooky Tours which take place on the nights of October 28 and 29.

It will all start promisingly enough as visitors enter the mill and enjoy some gothic Victorian games such as bobbing for apples.

However, there will be more sinister twists and turns as the tour bobs and weaves its way through narrow corridors and stone staircases.

Expect ventriloquists, spiritualists and séances as young actors from Staffordshire University create some spooky moments to remember.

“We’ve been working hard to make sure everyone has a terrifying Hallowe'en,” said Andrew Fillis, of nrg theatre company and students from Staffordshire University.

“This year’s Spooky Tours will be more frightening than ever before - we just hope people are brave enough to enter the mill!”

Booking is essential for the 45-minute Spooky Tours, which cost £10. For more details go to nationaltrust.org.uk/quarry-bank and to book call 0344 2491895.

Younger children will also be able to enter the Hallowe'en spirit on October 29 and 30 at Quarry Bank.

Between 11am and 4pm there will be a spider trail and craft activity in the mill as well as storytelling and apple bobbing at the Apprentice House.

Trails cost £1 but other activities are free after families have paid for admission.
