FROM American IPA to Belgian wheat, craft beer seems to be everywhere at the moment.

It all means that you’d struggle to find a pub that doesn’t serve at least a half-decent pint in 2016, and with the number of breweries in the UK increasing by eight per cent over the past year, the trend shows no sign of slowing.

Putting Wilmslow firmly onto this map of hops, yeast, water and barley is the Brewhouse and Kitchen in Swan Street – handily a stone’s throw away from the town’s train station.

The company now has 16 branches across the country, and is becoming one of the go-to places for beer lovers.

Each Brewhouse has its own in-house microbrewery producing a selection of beers that are unique to that particular pub – such as Bollin Ruby, Wilmslow’s own session bitter.

Tucked alongside Brewhouse’s tables and chairs, guests won’t fail to be impressed by the microbrewery, which serves as a constant reminder that the beer is as fresh as it is exceptional.

The bar features an impressive selection of ales and lagers from around the world, as well as Brewhouse’s own beers, which change throughout the year.

Its friendly and knowledgeable staff are on hand to recommend something completely new to try, and there’s not a Carling or Fosters in sight.

Brewhouse also runs beer tasting masterclasses, which give guests the chance to sample eight different beers and discover their true love, from £20.

The masterclass is run by a member of the pub’s brewing and bar staff, and is perfect for small groups of friends or couples.

It begins with an in-depth discussion about the history of beer, its ingredients – including the unusual opportunity to taste different malts - and which drinks make the guests tick.

The eight beers then follow one-by-one, with one-third of a pint of each, along with the chance to talk about the beers and whether they went down well.

The masterclass takes around two hours in total, and by the end of it you’ll have discovered a new favourite drink.

It’s the staff at Brewhouse that really make the masterclass special.

They know their beer, and during the masterclass they join in with the drinking – guests end the night feeling like they’ve been chatting to a friend.

Of course, no pub is complete without the grub to go with the beer, and Brewhouse does not disappoint.

The pick of the menu is the Ridiculous Burger, which comes packed with two beef burgers, bacon, pulled pork and cheese, and served with chips, slaw and delicious beer-battered onion rings, at £15.95.

Brewhouse and Kitchen is a truly unique addition to the bars of Wilmslow, and for the beer lover, it’s difficult to beat it in the north west.
