KNOWSLEY Safari is hosting a five day academy for teens aged 15 to 18 who have a passion for animals this summer.

The week long intensive course is designed for animal lovers interested in a future career as a vet, zoologist, keeper or conservationist to explore hands-on tasks to enhance their application, develop essential life skills and broaden their knowledge of the animal world.

Academy students will take part in theory sessions on diet, anatomy, and behaviour and industry issues workshops, as well as having the opportunity to ask questions and be given guidance on potential career paths.

Nikki Mallott, head of learning and discovery at Knowsley Safari, said: “Taking part in practical activities and getting so close to our animals provides an invaluable opportunity for youngsters wanting to pursue animal related careers to understand more about all the species here on safari and their care.

“As well as taking part in a range of experiences from mucking out habitats, preparing food and making enrichment devices, they’ll also receive a certificate and personal reference statement. Plus a USB of images as evidence of their practical experience and to celebrate their Knowsley Academy graduation.”

There are two week long courses taking place on August 13 to 17 with limited places left.

The course cost £218.70 for members and £243 for non-members.
