CREAMFIELDS returns to Daresbury over the August bank holiday for its celebration of 21 years.

The electronic and dance music festival will be held from August 23 to 26 with live sets from more than 300 artists including headliners The Chainsmokers, Laidback Luke and Martin Garrix.

There will also be numerous new festival zones and stages like the 360 degree, stadium-like structure, Silo. Ahead of the event we caught up with Creamfields regular Norman ‘Fatboy Slim’ Cook, who will be performing on the Horizon stage on Sunday, August 26, this year and recently celebrated his 55th birthday.

What has been your favourite on the road moment?

A 34-hour drive on a tour bus from Sweden to southern Italy.

We partied the whole way and for many periods had no idea or care what country we were in – quite a liberating feeling.

There were also lots of very long and bizarre conversations and attempts to climb all the way round the bus without touching the floor...

Favourite city?

Brighton to live in. Florianopolis in Brazil when I’m on the road.

Brighton attracts a certain brand of forward-thinking, tolerant, hedonists who don’t get too hung up on careers, money, celebrity or hard work.

What keeps you sane on the road?

HBO and Showtime series on box set.

What have you taken from a hotel room?

Over the years a clock, a painting, many pillows, and a pillow case with my name embroidered on it.

What is the best souvenir you’ve come home with?

A Brazil shirt signed to me by Pele.

I was the unofficial DJ of the World Cup in Brazil.

One of the venues was the Morumbi Stadium in Sau Paulo and Pele was organising the fan zone events.

His family sent his apologies that he was poorly but to thank me they presented me with a Brazil shirt signed to me. I nearly fainted!

Worst meal you’ve had abroad?

Frog spawn soup in Taiwan – it wasn’t unpleasant, just like someone had poured frog spawn in your soup!

Strangest place you’ve spent the night?

I camped next to a maggot farm in France. You could smell it for miles and I got bitten a lot.

I left first thing in the morning. It was somewhere in the Pyrenees

Best place you’ve spent the night?

Glastonbury! All the dull conventions of regular life are abandoned and a whole new kind of society evolves which is arguably more civilised.

Have you ever come close to being arrested?

I’ve come more than close...Taking the Fifth Amendment on that, sorry.
