THE next generation of entrepreneurs at Wilmslow High are gearing themselves up for the north west final of the Young Enterprise competition by making brew time a less stressful experience for office workers.

What A Mug, led by Sophie Davis, have already tasted success in two rounds of the popular business competition and will be battling it out on June 18 in the north west finals at Radbroke Hall in a bid to travel to London for the national final.

And the team’s product is certainly proving to be a hit with workers in Wilmslow who cannot remember what their colleagues like to drink.

“We produce quality mugs with a unique design that enables customers to enjoy a hot beverage specifically tailored to their needs and desires,” Sophie said.

“You can simply write your name on the mug with the included pen before moving on to select either tea, coffee, herbal tea or hot chocolate as well as the desired quantity of milk and even how many sugars.”

The team presented to Wilmslow Business Group on May 12, which resulted in more than 120 mugs being ordered, to go with orders from Barclays and Astra Zeneca.

“We’re the second team ever from Wilmslow High to get through to this stage,” Sophie, 17, added.

“We’ve got such a lovely team and we didn’t really know each other to start with and weren’t friends but now we meet up outside of school.

“But everyone likes the idea we have and we came up with it after loads of brainstorming.

“We’ve also met up with cyclist Laura Trott (Double Olympic and World Champion) and she has spoken to us and encouraged us.

“Winning best trade stand and overall east Cheshire winner was exciting, but then to go through to the Cheshire final and win again meaning we will be representing Cheshire was a moment I will never forget.

“The whole team has worked so hard and are everyone is doing so well to balance A-levels as well as preparing for the next round. We have all found that winning is bringing us closer together as a team and all we want now is to get to London and represent the north west in the UK finals.”
