ORGANISERS of this year’s annual Alderley Edge Allotment Society show have declared it the ‘best ever’.
The 73rd show featured hundreds of entries to a variety of categories including flowers, fruit, vegetables, baking, preserves, crafts, painting and photography.
Society chairman Fenton Simpson said: “Despite the terrible start to the growing year with a cold spring the fruit and vegetable entries were all in good condition. All the feedback that I’ve received so far suggests that this was the best show ever!
“John Saunders who was judging those entries said that overall the classes were good. However we did not get any entries in the sweetcorn class, due to the cold spring.”
According to Mr Fenton domestic crafts entries were down slightly and the home cookery entries were slightly up on last year.
He explained: “We do struggle to get many children’s entries, but this is partly due to the show being at the end of the school holidays.
“The pop up cafe which was in its second year proved popular for visitors but it would be nice to have some live music for next year’s show. If anyone wants to play in next year’s show please let me know.”
Local groups including the Alderley Sports and Social Club, Age UK and Cancer Research were able to promote their individual efforts and activities with the latter raising £300 by selling old framed photos from the De Trafford pub.
