THE best - and worst - GP surgeries in Wilmslow, Handforth and Alderley Edge have been revealed in a new survey completed by patients.

Surgeries in the area have been ranked as part of a new patient satisfaction survey undertaken by Ipsos MORI.

The area’s GP surgeries are looked after by the Eastern Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group, which includes practices in Knutsford, Chelford, Holmes Chapel, Congleton, Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Macclesfield and Poynton.

The England-wide survey provides practice-level data about patient experiences of their GP practices, measuring their experiences of waiting times, care quality, opening times, making appointments and out of hours services.

A total of 2,550 people took part in the survey across the Eastern Cheshire CCG patch.

The GP Patient Survey has rated Chelford Village Surgery on Elmstead Road in the village as the top practice in the area with a 96 per cent happiness rating, while The Handforth Health Centre came second bottom of the table in east Cheshire with a rating of 85 per cent – the same as the national average but two percent below the average of the other GP surgeries in the Eastern Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group.

Wilmslow Health Centre scored 93 per cent, with Kenmore polling 91 per cent and George Street Medical Practice in Alderley Edge scoring 89 per cent when it came to overall satisfaction.

Handforth Medical Centre scored 60 per cent when it came to saying how easy it was in getting an appointment on the phone – with the Eastern Cheshire average being 71 per cent.

Chelford, again, was the highest with 95 per cent. George Street scored 89 per cent, Kenmore 83 per cent and Wilmslow Health Centre 84 per cent.

When it comes to the success in getting an appointment, Chelford once again came out on top with a 96 per cent rating – just ahead of Kenmore with 93 per cent and Wilmslow 92 per cent.

Handforth was the lowest with 85 per cent, just below George Street with 86 per cent.

The average for the CCG area was 89 per cent.

In Eastern Cheshire an encouraging 94 per cent of residents had confidence and trust in their GP. Handforth and Kenmore polled 99 per cent, George Street 96 per cent, Chelford 96 per cent and Wilmslow 94 per cent.

However, residents’ confidence and trust in nurses wasn’t as positive in the area, with 85 per cent satisfied. The lowest mark in the Wilmslow area saw Kenmore, Wilmslow and Handforth all polling 86 per cent. Chelford scored 92 per cent and George Street 90 per cent.
