A BUMPER crowd witnessed dozens of incredible displays at the 75th Alderley Edge village show on Saturday, August 20.
Visitors flocked to the annual event, which showcased some of the finest fruit, vegetables, flowers and crafts in the village.
The Alderley Edge Allotments and Gardens Society, who organise the event, had called for as many villagers as possible to come down to the event – and they weren’t disappointed.
Fenton Simpson, chairman of the Alderley Edge Allotments and Gardens Society, said: “It was an absolutely brilliant day – we’ve never had such a busy show.
“We had 40 per cent more entries than the previous year, which is a new record.
“Visitor numbers were also a big increase – we never had a part of the day where people weren’t coming through the door!
“We even sold out of raffle tickets and had to go out to buy some more.”
The event welcomed a wide range of entries from a host of talented people, with 106 show classes in total including prizes for best the tallest sunflower, the longest cucumber and the best shed.
Organisers were delighted at the efforts that were entered by competitors of all ages.
Fenton said: “We had two really great scarecrows – a lot of work went into those.
“We also had a lot of children’s entries too, which were fantastic.
“Considering how bad the weather was in the winter, it was remarkable to see so many entries this year.”
This year’s show was the first to be held at Alderley Edge’s Festival Hall after its recent refurbishment, and Fenton believes it was the perfect venue for the annual show.
“The new hall was brilliant,” he said.
“There was a lot of natural light coming through so the whole atmosphere was completely different to previous years, when we relied on indoor lighting.
“Overall it was just a brilliant day.”
