CANCER charity Marie Curie is hoping for a generous year after being nominated to partner a busy Wilmslow supermarket.

Customers of Sainsbury’s, on Alderley Road, overwhelmingly chose Marie Curie to be the store’s Charity of the Year in a public vote.

Over £1,200 has already been raised, with more activities and events planned for the year ahead until July 2017, while local volunteers will also be collecting money and raising awareness in-store.

Jessica Herrington, fundraiser for East Cheshire, said: “We can’t thank the customers and staff enough for choosing to support Marie Curie over the next year.

“Having this opportunity means so much and will help us to raise the vital funds needed to continue providing the Marie Curie Nursing Service in East Cheshire.”

All money raised will fund Marie Curie services in East Cheshire, including nursing care, emotional support and a confidential helpline.

Andy Ireland, store manager, said: “We’re really excited to be working with Marie Curie this year after the success of our charity fundraising last year.

“I’m sure the generous people of Wilmslow will continue to show their amazing support and help us to have a really successful year of fundraising for this worthwhile charity.”

The charity is also looking for more local volunteers to support the partnership through collections and bag packing.
