WILMSLOW’S GCSE students breathed a collective sigh of relief as they found out their own good news on Thursday, August 25.

Many pupils from Wilmslow High School excelled again in 2016, with the site’s results remaining at a similar level to last year.

As several youngsters left the school with a smile on their face, they were finally able to relax after a long summer of waiting for their grades.

Joe McBride achieved straight As and A* grades, exceeding his expectations.

“I’m really chuffed – I was nervous on the way in, felt a bit sick, but it was all worth it now that it’s over,” he said.

“From March onwards was pretty hellish, but now it’s all over we can relax.”

Friends Emma Crawford, Mikaila James (two A*s, five As, one B), India Marsh (two As, three Bs, three Cs) and Molly Roberts (four A*s, four As) were all in great spirits.

“We’re all celebrating this morning. We were so nervous before we got here, it’s been a long wait,” Emma said.

“I got three As, five Bs and a C and I’m really happy with the grades.”

One of the school’s highest achievers was Anna Mulroy, who achieved an incredible 11 straight A* grades.

She said: “I was really scared, but I’m so happy with the grades.”

Scott Walker, who achieved four A*s and five A grades, was feeling exhausted after an involving day and an early start.

“I was so nervous on the way in this morning. Too much hard work went into it, but it’s good news now,” he said.

“I’m going to go back and sleep! We were up so early for the results, I think I’ll head back to bed.”

While the students were relieved about their grades, many parents had shared their children’s nerves, including Emily Hamilton’s mother, Sue, and father, Gordon.

He said: “I felt her concern – this is the biggest school event she’s gone through and it was very important for Emily so we were very anxious, but trying not to let it show.”

“I was really nervous, and it didn’t feel real when I was walking in, it didn’t feel right but it was fine, I was okay,” Emily added.

“I’m really happy with my results, I got four A*s, four As and a B.”
