STAFF at Wilmslow High School struggled to hide their delight as GCSE students left with an impressive set of results.

The school has maintained a steady level following last year’s sharp increase in GCSE results, with over 77 per cent of GCSE entries gaining A*-C grades.

Seventy per cent of students achieved five A*-C grades, including mathematics and English, with 75 per cent gaining a C or above in English language, 83 per cent in English literature and 86 per cent in mathematics.

The school also had a number of outstanding achievers, with over 27 per cent of GCSE entries gaining A or A* grades.

Dr James Pullé, headmaster at Wilmslow High School, said: “As a comprehensive school that is committed to being at the heart of its community, we always regards GCSE results day as a moment to celebrate the full range of our students’ aspirations and achievements.

“Of course, examination results are only one part of a ‘whole education’ and students in this year’s GCSE cohort have participated fully and performed highly across the full range of our wider curriculum.

“The students collecting their results today will now be taking the next steps in their education or training in the school sixth form, at college or in an apprenticeship.

“Whatever their destination we thank them for their contribution to school life over the last five years and wish them well for the future.”

The school also highlighted the success of students who took part in the MFL team’s world languages programme.

Alex Sharp achieved an A* in Italian, Toprak Sen got an A* in Turkish, and Kornelia Niemiec got an A in Polish.

Members of the school’s Cheshire Cup-winning Under-16 girls’ football and netball teams also received their GCSE results today.
