A WILMSLOW pub which has been recognised with two awards celebrated in style last weekend – with a fancy dress party for dogs.

Fresh from winning two awards in the Enterprise Pubs in Bloom competition, The Carters Arms, in Chapel Lane, hosted a party in aid of Greyhounds in Need on Sunday, December 4.

More than 30 dogs came down for the party, and their owners helped to raise £265 for the charity from a fancy dress competition, tombola, ‘doggy lucky dip’, merchandise and a collection tin.

Anna Sharples, who has run the pub with husband Mikey since March, told the Guardian: “Greyhounds in Need is a charity we have both supported for many years, and it was a fantastic day enjoyed by all.”

Among the winners were Cathy Taylor’s dog Bella, who won most festive outfit, while best co-ordinated outfits went to Izzy Tabah and her dog, Dipstick.

The party came two days after Tatton MP George Osborne paid a visit to the pub, where he congratulated the landlords on their recent Pubs in Bloom success.

“It was great to meet Mikey and Anna and see the hard work they have put into making their pub a credit to the town,” he said.

“I have always recognised the vital contribution pubs make to local communities.”

Anna added: “We entered Pubs in Bloom this year, winning both the regional and divisional awards, and we got a £1,500 prize to spend on improving the pub’s experience.

“We are looking to use the money to install a log burner.”

The pub, which is owned by Enterprise Inns, will be hosting an open mic night for mental health charity SANE on Friday, December 9.
