A MOTHER of four from Wilmslow is taking on the Stroke Association’s Resolution Run next month at Heaton Park after her little boy had a stroke in the womb.

When Louie Carter was around five months old, his mother Lizzy noticed he was experiencing seizures and took him to hospital, where he was assessed by several doctors.

Louie had developed epilepsy, and an MRI scan revealed this had been caused by a stroke he had experienced in the womb.

As a result of his stroke, Louie has cerebral palsy and limited movement in his right side.

Now four years old, Louie is in reception class at Lacey Green Primary Academy.

Lizzy, 30, is planning to take on the Stroke Association’s 5km Resolution Run on March 5, to raise funds to help other families affected by stroke.

Lizzy said: “Louie is such a happy little boy and he loves being at school.

“When I saw the Stroke Association’s Resolution Run on Facebook, I thought why not? I’ve not done anything like this for a few years but it’s given me the motivation to build my fitness.

“As a busy mum of four it’s tricky to find time to train but I’ve been running on a treadmill at home and joining exercise classes, and I’ve already noticed a difference!

“I’m keen to raise awareness that a stroke really can happen to anyone at any time, while also raising funds for the Stroke Association. I want to help people recovering from a stroke to get the support they need.”

Sian Thomas, community and events fundraiser at the Stroke Association, said: “With around 1.2 million people across the UK living with the devastating impact of stroke it is vital that we have people like our Resolution Runners to raise funds and help us conquer stroke.

“We’re thrilled Lizzy is taking part.

“We’re looking forward to cheering her on alongside our other participants as she makes their way through the park.

Entry fee is just £15 and runners can choose the 5km, 10km or 15km course.

All runners receive a technical running t-shirt and medal.
