DOZENS of dedicated volunteers from Wilmslow and Alderley Edge braved last weekend's cold weather to tidy up their streets.

Groups from across SK9 picked up several bags of litter for this year's Great British Spring Clean from Friday, March 3 to Sunday, March 5.

Volunteers from Alderley Edge picked up 17 bags of litter from Waitrose car park and London Road on the Friday, before picking up another 12 from the village a day later.

Christine Munro, from the Alderley Edge Partnership, told the Guardian that their work had left the village looking immaculate.

"We have made a great difference - everywhere looks spic and span," she said.

"Unfortunately we couldn't do any work on the Sunday due to the rain, but we are rescheduling the jobs we were going to do that day for another day.

"A big thank you to all the volunteers who came to help us."

Meanwhile, 11 members of the Wilmslow Clean Team met at Wilmslow Leisure Centre on Saturday to tidy the town centre.

The group picked up 20 bags of litter from Water Lane, Alderley Road, Altrincham Road, Macclesfield Road and the car parks at Hoopers and Sainsbury's.

Their work followed an impressive effort on Wednesday, March 1, when 14 Clean Team members and Riverside volunteers picked up 59 bags from Colshaw Farm, Dean Row Road, Summerfields and near the A34.

A spokesman from the Wilmslow Clean Team, said: "A massive haul of 79 bags of litter was collected in our two March picks.

"As always, it was lovely to welcome some new faces to our litter picks.

"We will carry on the good work in the annual Wilmslow Spring Clean from March 27 to April 2."
