AN appeal has been launched by Forces veterans in Bolton to help send a young girl with a cancerous tumour to the United States for treatment.

Members of the Bolton and District Parachute Regimental Association held a fundraiser for Breya Ward, two, whose dad Ollie, 32, is a serving paratrooper based in Colchester.

The fundraiser at Morrisons Whitefield, last Friday and Saturday, raised £1,202, towards the £250,000 appeal, which has been launched by her dad and mum Holly, 32.

Association branch secretary and fundraiser Norman Ward said: "Customers coming to Morrisons gave very generously to our appeal with a total of £633 raised last Friday and £569 on Saturday at our stand which featured details about Breya. Her dad is a sergeant with the 3rd Battalion of the Parachute Regiment.

"We normally raise money for our regiment but on this occasion we explained to people we needed to help this family and this little girl raise £250,000 for her treatment."

Her parents are convinced her best chance comes from pioneering immunotherapy treatment Anti-GD2 which she cannot get in Britain.

The treatment would be crucial to fight Breya’s stage four neuroblastoma which now measures 18 x 14cm.
