A FORMER parliamentary candidate for Tatton believes June’s general election will give residents the chance to prevent a ‘disastrous hard Brexit’.

Gareth Wilson, from Mobberley, believes Theresa May’s shock snap election is a ‘huge opportunity’ for voters who are concerned about the direction of the country.

And the chairman of Tatton Lib Dems, who stood against Mr Osborne two years ago, also believes voters can make a stand against the former chancellor on Thursday, June 8.

“People in Tatton voted decisively to remain in the EU, and certainly did not vote for the extreme form of Brexit that Theresa May has imposed on us after being backed by Labour,” he said.

“For all those who want to protect our local economy by staying in the single market and ensure the people have the final say over what comes next, this is your chance.

“This is also a perfect opportunity for constituents to show George Osborne what they think of him being editor of the London Evening Standard whilst remaining an MP.

“Many residents have contacted me to tell me they think it’s a disgrace and he should resign, you now have your opportunity to kick him out and vote in a full time locally based MP who will give the people of Tatton a real voice in parliament.”

The Guardian has approached Tatton MP George Osborne to ask if he will be standing in June’s general election.
