REFERRING to Victoria Stimpson’s letter about Cranford Avenue parking problems in last week’s Guardian.

I use this road at least once or twice a day and have done for about 35 years.

It has always been tricky to navigate with cars parked both sides of the road and on the pavements, forcing pedestrians into the road.

With its proximity to the school, this road is crying out for the Dutch treatment.

This is an approach to road design where pedestrians are prioritised, and the dangers of speeding emphasised by curving the carriageway and changing road surface colours and materials.

The limit should also be reduced to 20 mph.

That may, potentially, reduce the number of parking spaces slightly, but the trade-off would be slower traffic and a safer, friendlier environment for all.

It might encourage the aggressive fool she encountered to use another route, but as long as there are only three north south roads across Knutsford (one of which is oneway) Cranford Avenue is going to remain a vital route.
