A GROUP of crafty youngsters raised money for Marie Curie last week by making the 'world’s biggest' daffodil chain.

Members of Lindow Rainbows and Brownies coloured in 196 paper daffodils to make a chain, which is now on display at Lindow Primary School.

The groups raised £50 for Marie Curie, which is currently charity of the year at Sainsbury’s, in Alderley Road.

Ella Brookbanks, leader of the Lindow Rainbows, told the Guardian: “We’ve been in Sainsbury’s a few times to help the store raise money for Marie Curie.

“They asked us to team up with them to help raise more money, and we came up the idea of making the daffodil chain, as the daffodil is the emblem for Marie Curie.

“At first we cut out 190 daffodils, and we asked the girls to colour each one in, and in 40 minutes we had managed to do 196 in total.”

After colouring in each individual daffodil, the youngsters then joined them up in a chain before hanging it up around Lindow Primary School’s hall.

Ella added: “The girls absolutely loved it, and some of their parents watched them make it.

“It’s a very big chain of daffodils, and it’s the first time that this has been attempted, so we’ve set the bar for a new record.”
