KEEN walkers from across the north are being invited to Alderley Edge as part of a new initiative.

Andrew White, from Amazon Prime show Walks Around Britain, has teamed up with Northern to produce a list of 12 walks from train stations across the region – including Alderley Edge.

The walks, which are set to feature in the fourth and fifth series of the show, encourage walkers to ditch their cars and explore the area.

"You don’t need to be a dedicated hiker to make the most of the amazing walking on our doorsteps," he said.

"I’ve always believed that some of the most rewarding walks are the ones that reveal the special experiences available closer to home.

"Many of the routes I’ve developed for Northern take you from one station to another, which means you can simply get the train home when you’ve finished."

Joanne Morley, head of brand and business development at Northern, added: "Our trains stop at remote villages and thriving cities and once you’re there, there’s no better way to explore a place than on foot."

The 12 We Are Northern Train Trails will be available to download as a guide from June 1 at northernrailway.co.uk
