EAST Cheshire has seen the third-largest increase in electoral roll registration across the country over the past year.
New figures released by credit information provider Equifax show that electoral roll registration in the borough increased by 7.49 per cent – behind only Colchester and Tower Hamlets.
Nationally, electoral roll registration has seen a 1.8 per cent increase over the past year.
Lisa Hardstaff, credit information expert at Equifax, said: “Being able to vote on June 8 is the right for all British citizens and those eligible under UK law.
“The electoral roll is used by many companies for identity verification purposes, in order to combat fraud. It’s also important if you’re planning to apply for credit or a new service or utility contract."
Adults aged 18 or over on June 8 can register to vote by May 22, at gov.uk
