RESIDENTS of Wilmslow and Handforth are being asked to remember the victims of this week’s terror attack in Manchester at two vigils.

Churches Together in Wilmslow is hosting a vigil from 7.30pm on Monday, May 29, at the Memorial Gardens near St Bartholomew’s Church.

Musicians and speakers are expected at the event, while candles will also be lit.

Rev Kirsty Thorpe told the Guardian: “We want to show solidarity with Manchester.

“We felt it was important that we had something in town. So many people who live here work or socialise in Manchester, and it’s a big part of all our lives.

“Everyone is welcome – people of any faith or no faith.”

A candle-lit vigil will also be held at the old bowling green, in Meriton Road Park, from 7pm on the same night.

Tara Pownall, who organised the Handforth event, said: “I think we should all come together and remember the lives on the one-week anniversary.”
