STUDENTS from a school in France have enjoyed a taste of Alderley Edge life as part of a reading project.

Youngsters from Groupe Scolaire St Jacques de Compostelle, in Dax, visited Alderley Edge School for Girls, where they worked with year seven students to read texts in English and French.

More than 50 pupils and staff were involved in the meeting, which was funded by Erasmus+, the European Union’s programme for education, training, youth and sport.

Ann Bush, project coordinator, said: “We really enjoyed this project week.

“We are delighted to have been part of this major Erasmus+ project in which girls from all years have been involved in one project or another.

“More than 200 pupils and staff have been involved in and reaped the benefits of this project during the last three years.”

During the week, the youngsters read Wonder by RJ Palacio, wrote poems and comic book strips, and created a trailer for the film of the book.

The project was designed to help pupils gain self-confidence, develop their critical and language skills, and to work together with other nationalities.
