THE Tesco Bags of Help scheme will provide grants to help local projects in Trafford.

Customers at the Tesco Extra store on Manor road, Altrincham, will be able to vote between three projects they would like to see receive the biggest grant.

The store is giving out grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 to three local projects thanks to its Bags of Help scheme, with customers voting for which project they prefer using tokens given out at checkout.

The three local projects that are in running for the grants are the Friends of Broadway Park in Urmston, Mossfield Allotments in Urmston, and the Poynton Parish Plan Monitoring Group.

Aaron McCaw, customer experience manager at Tesco in Altrincham, said: "Our Bags of Help scheme is providing much needed funding to hundreds of groups across the country.

"We’re excited to see the outcome of this round of voting, and to see the grants put into action.

"I’d encourage everyone shopping at Altrincham Extra to make sure they cast their votes!"

Friends of Broadway Park are looking to develop the currently unused tennis court and bowling green, turning the site into a community orchard and sculpture garden, to create a positive and healthy environment where children can play and learn about planting and growing their own fruit.

The plans for the Mossfield Allotments project will see a restoration of the natural Marl Pond on the historic site, in existence prior to 1848, leading to improved public safety, increased wildlife and to promote public interest and education.

The Poynton Plan Monitoring Group will be looking for support to develop the Poynton Heritage Garden, near to Poynton Library on Park Lane.

The scheme raises money from the 5p tax levy on plastic bags, with over £27m being given to thousands of projects around the country.
