MORE than £800 was raised for charity as dog lovers brought their prize pooches to the Morley Green fun dog show.

Pet owners gathered to raise money for Animal Support Volunteers on Sunday, June 4, as the dogs tried their luck in 12 show classes.

Tony Walker, honorary treasurer at Animal Support Volunteers, said: “A most enjoyable afternoon was had by all.

“The weather held out until almost the end but a few showers didn’t deter either the dogs or their owners.

“Twelve classes were held in all, including a couple of news ones, sausage catching and musical sit. Whether it was the spectators or the dogs that enjoyed these the most is debatable.

“Just over £800 was raised for the charity, which will help Tregony Jane Windsor and her team of volunteers continue their good work.”

Author Phil Hunter gave Animal Support Volunteers a boost with proceeds from his book, Sussex Vet: A Fortunate Life in Eight Decades, being donated to the charity.

Guardian columnist Vic Barlow was also on hand to offer his one-to-one behavioural clinic on the day, while Oscar Pet Foods, Organo Gold Coffee and The Vet’s Place also attended.
