TWO people have been taking to hospital after a car crash on the A34 between Wilmslow and Handforth Dean.

Emergency services were called to the incident at around 3.20pm yesterday, Saturday, and police officers closed the road between the Dean Row and Coppice Way roundabouts.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Two casualties were released from a car after being involved in a collision on the A34.

"Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to get to the casualties who were then removed from the car on longboard.

"Both were then taken to hospital by ambulance.

"Only one vehicle was involved in the incident where crews were working for around an hour."

The road remained closed into the evening, and reopened shortly before 8pm.

Police officers had earlier urged motorists to avoid the area.

The force posted on Twitter at 3.48pm: "Closure of the A34 between Coppice Way roundabout & Dean Row roundabout due to serious road traffic collision, please use alternate route."
