AN Urmston mum-of-two fighting breast cancer is preparing to take on the Race for Life Pretty Muddy.

Kate Rackham, 39, will be tackling the 5k obstacle course at Tatton Park to raise money for Cancer Research UK on Saturday, June 24,.

She will be joined by a number of mums and staff from St Michael’s Primary School in Flixton who will not only be running in support of Kate, but also to remember fellow mum Natalie Thomas, who died, aged 42, of a rare liver cancer mere weeks after being diagnosed.

Kate said: “When Natalie and I met last September we both felt fit and healthy and were worried about our children settling into school.

"And now I have had to undergo treatment for breast cancer aged 39 and Nat has died so suddenly.

“It will be an incredibly emotional day thinking about Nat and her family, but we are all so looking forward to the experience and are determined to raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research UK.”

The Race for Life Pretty Muddy 5k and 10k events will be held at Tatton Park on Saturday June 24 with the Race for Life traditional 5k and 10k events being held at the same venue on Sunday June 25.

Kate's husband, Mark, will be opening a bar in Urmston at the end of this month called The Barking Dog, where he will hold a fundraiser for Cancer Research UK on Saturday, June 24.

Jane Bullock, Cancer Research UK’s North West spokeswoman, said: ”Sadly, most of us know someone like Kate whose life has been touched by cancer.

“By taking part in Race for Life, women could help more men, women and children to survive the disease.

“Our aim is that one day everyone will beat cancer. The more women who Race for Life, the sooner that day will come.”
