THE future of The Pear is unclear as the sculpture is set to be removed.

Having been reinstalled in 2015 at a cost of £1,300 when vandals first knocked it over after just a year in Alderley Road, the sculpture was knocked down again last month.

The Pear, which was created by sculptor Keith Carter Harris, has been on its side outside Costa Coffee since Thursday, May 25, but it is expected to be removed for inspection soon.

Matthew Jackson, clerk at Wilmslow Town Council, told the Guardian: “The Pear will be moved and then, as I understand it, is going to be decided whether it will be repaired.

“Going forward there will be a decision on where to reinstall it if it can be repaired.

“But it’s not easy to shift the sculpture, and will need equipment to do it.”

Incredible Edible Wilmslow, which owns the sculpture, is yet to make its own plans clear for The Pear.

“It’s all a bit complicated as we had the idea for The Pear, Keith produced the sculpture and the town council produced funds for it,” said Helen Yates, from the group.

Keith also told the Guardian that after this second incident, he will ‘take a back seat’ on the sculpture’s future.

The incident has been reported to police, and anyone with information can call 101 and quote incident number 8742505.
