HUNDREDS of children are expected to dip into a book this summer as a popular challenge returns.
Wilmslow Library’s Summer Reading Challenge begins on Saturday, July 1, with the task of reading six books before heading back to school two months later.
The event, which is sponsored by Wilmslow Town Council, will also see Minecraft and Lego sessions, animal handling events, crafts and a meeting with an author.
This year’s theme is ‘animal agents’, as Daisy the rabbit asks youngsters to help crack the case of something peculiar which will unfold in the library.
Librarian Marg Charlesworth said: “Last year saw 670 children start the Summer Reading Challenge and nearly 450 children completed it, reading all six books.
"It would be great if even more children took part this year.”
Children taking part will receive a reward after every two books read in the summer, and all youngsters who complete the challenge will be invited to an award ceremony in September for a certificate and medal.
