FLASH mob fans are invited to join dancers to promote a major community youth project earmarked for Wilmslow.

Ghost writer Liz Wallis is heading up Confused Rainbow, an initiative which aims to open a community café, arts space and alternative therapy centre for the town’s young people.

The project is intended to create a safe space for the children of the area, where everyone is welcome and support is offered.

The eventual hope is to expand the project into an Arts Council-funded scheme and Fringe Carnival/Festival, incorporating all the arts and involving the whole community.

Arts Council funding is being sought, and it is hoped to have premises for the project by the end of September.

A flash mob is to take place in the town on September 9 to publicise the community initiative.

The dancers taking part are to rehearse on August 30 from 6pm to 8pm in Wilmslow, and anyone who would like to join in can contact Liz.

Liz, 41, has lived in Wilmslow since she was seven, and is working with the National Enterprise Allowance to start the new business/charity for the town’s young people.

“Confused Rainbow is borne out of the need to make families whole again, from the desire to help those less fortunate, to bring affordable therapy to those who need it most – to educate, support and bring together a community,” she said.

The centre would include a homework and revision space, teenage mentors, a place for meditation and yoga, somewhere parents can seek support, an event space, creative writing classes, film making, music, photography, a community area and community meals.

“It’s a mammoth undertaking, and we are organising a flash mob for September to publicise what we are planning,” said Liz.

“We have the filming sorted, and have massive local involvement. With the right people willing to tweet the video there begins our fundraising! All offers will be gratefully received.

“We’re also looking for celebrity writers willing to contribute content for the website, the Facebook page – Confused Rainbow, The Wilmslow Collective - is due to go live on July 31 at 5pm, and the blog will launch on the same day.

“We are launching a programme to nurture the beginnings of a creative revolution, and the youth of Wilmslow needs your help,” said Liz.
