FAMILY-run delicatessen Grantham’s Fine Food and Wine is celebrating scooping a major accolade.

The Alderley Edge business won the Independent Retailer of the Year title at the Cheshire Life Food and Drink Awards.

The shop is in Heyes Lane, and has another reason to cheer this year, as it celebrates its 70th year in the family.

“We were delighted to discover that we had made the Independent Retailer shortlist for the second year running at the Cheshire Life Food and Drink awards,” said Rachael Grantham.

“The awards ceremony was held at Carden Park in Chester, and it was announced on the evening that we had won Best Independent Retailer 2017.

“We are a fourth generation family run delicatessen, and are passionate about supporting the independent.

“We ensure as many of the products we sell in the shop come from family-run small producers, whether this is the bakery down the road or the small family-run farm we import goats cheese from in France.

“In a time when we have to fight very hard to compete with the larger multiples that come into our villages, to be recognised in this way is a great honour.

“The shop is celebrating its 70th year in our family this year, and this was the perfect way to kick start the celebrations.

“We would like to say a big thank you to Cheshire Life, everybody who voted, all our amazing customers and our fantastic suppliers.

Cheshire Life editor Louise Taylor said: “Cheshire Life’s Food and Drink Awards night has become the landmark event in the local culinary calendar.

“The glamorous occasion is always packed with excitement as we recognise the very best in the hospitality industry.

“Now, in its 21st year, the announcement of the winners is, as ever, eagerly anticipated by the key players whose talents and dedication we are celebrating.”

Grantham’s was competing for the title against The Easy Fish Company at Heaton Moor and Claremont Farm on The Wirral.

Finalists, guests and sponsors joined Cheshire Life for the Food and Drink Awards at Carden Park, a hotel and spa near Chester, on July 10.
