SALE Golf Club has teamed up with charity Trafford Veterans to improve the wellbeing of veterans.

A six-week coaching programme for veterans was set up by Sale Golf Club manager John Jackson, and Trafford Veterans' Andy Graham, with the help of PGA professional Pete Mackenzie.

The programme, which began on July 24, aims to help veterans enjoy the health benefits from playing golf, which has been linked with reducing stress, anxiety and depression.

Trafford Veterans works with ex-armed forces members who may have difficulties re-integrating into normal life after their time in the services.

At the end of the coaching programme, there will be a Veterans Golf Day where Sale Golf Club members who are also veterans will be challenging the Trafford Veterans to a game on the course.

A fundraising page was set up to help cover the costs of coaching, which has so far raised £1,155: https://www.gofundme.com/using-golf-to-help-local-veterans

Any donations left over will be given to the Trafford Veterans. The Veterans will also receive a free Sale Golf Club Polo Shirt each with ‘Trafford Veterans’ embroidered under the club badge as a keepsake.
