A Government minister is due to hear why lines across Cheshire should be re-opened at a meeting with Esther McVey and the Mid Cheshire Rail Users Group.

The Tatton MP secured a visit from Rail Minister Paul Maynard to discuss transport problems across the county with representatives from the group after lobbying him in Parliament.

Ms McVey said: “Improving local transport links is vital and I will do everything I can as the MP to push the case in Parliament.

"A lot of the workload in my first two months in Westminster has focused on transport problems, local lines that were closed but also plans for High Speed 2 and 3.

"I am delighted Paul will be coming at the end of the month to hear firsthand what a difference it would make re-opening the lines.

“I think it will be a really positive meeting, and the fact Paul has local knowledge as he used the Mid Cheshire line to travel to and from school I hope will strengthen his understanding on why these lines are vital.”

The meeting will take place in the constituency at the end of the month.
