MARIE Curie supporters are celebrating their fourth birthday and an outstanding fundraising year.

A group of fundraising volunteers in Wilmslow and Alderley Edge have raised £32,519 over the past 12 months through various fundraising activities.

The fundraising group raised the total by organising events, looking after the collection tins distributed in shops and businesses all over the Wilmslow and Alderley Edge area, and collecting in supermarkets over during the charity’s annual Great Daffodil Appeal in March.

This year the group have also worked with Sainsbury’s Wilmslow, which nominated Marie Curie as its charity of the year.

Since forming in August 2013 the group has raised an incredible £86,837.

The group is made up of residents from Wilmslow and Alderley Edge who meet every month.

Their support goes towards giving people with all terminal illnesses the choice to spend their final days at home.

Marie Curie Nurses provide patients and their families with free hands-on care and emotional support, in their own homes.

The £32,519 they have raised this year amounts to 1,626 hours of nursing care.

Jessica Herrington, Community Fundraiser for East Cheshire said; “This is a really lovely group of very dedicated supporters, and I am so grateful for their support and the funds they have raised.

Their dedication shows in their willingness to seek out new support in the community. I hope the group continues to raise more and more in the years to come.”

The fundraising group is keen to expand and is looking to welcome new members.
