CHILDREN teamed up in the playground to form a huge peace symbol.

All the pupils at Lindow Community Primary School created the symbol to celebrate International Day of Peace.

The school also held a special assembly to mark the event.

The International Day of Peace - ‘Peace Day’ - is observed around the world each year on September 21.

Established in 1981 by a unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally-shared date for all humanity to commit to peace above all differences and to contribute to building a culture of peace.

"International Peace Day presents an opportunity to learn and teach about history, the importance of peace and the costs of war," said deputy headteacher Amelia Lomas.

"Lindow Primary wanted to mark this important day in a number of ways.

"We began the day with a whole school assembly, with children reflecting on how can children promote peace in the world, and what can they do to help keep peace in their school and classroom?'

"At lunch they had a specially-presented International Peace Day meal organised by Cheshire East catering.

"They hoped that as well as sharing a meal with their friends, over 14,000 other primary school pupils would be sharing in the same meal in Cheshire East.

"In the afternoon the children gathered on the playground to make the peace sign. It was a thought-provoking and memorable day."
