WILMSLOW’S Christmas lights switch-on is to take place this year in South Drive, alongside Hoopers department store.

The switch-on will be on Saturday, November 25, and is being organised by Wilmslow Town Council.

Town council clerk Matthew Jackson said the decision to move the switch-on from Bank Square had been taken because of the inconvenience and expense of closing Green Lane and having to re-route buses.

The council wanted to minimise road closures, he said, and the new location would also mean that the parade of reindeer and children would not need to be taken across Alderley Road.

The new switch-on location will mean the closure of South Drive and the Alderley service road which runs in front of Hoopers.

Cheshire East Council offers towns four free car parking days a year, and Wilmslow Town Council has asked for one of its free days to be November 25.

The Rex, Hoopers, South Drive and Spring Street car parks will be free on the day from 10am.

We will be featuring details of the switch-on celebrations nearer the date.
