FESTIVE shoppers looking for that perfect Christmas card are invited to see what’s on offer at Wilmslow Library and the Curzon Cinema in Knutsford.

The invitation comes from Sheila Hallas from Wilmslow, who established the scheme in 1971 and is still actively involved.

The venues are hosting a Combined Charities Christmas Card Shop in the run-up to the festive season, with 100 per cent of the money from the cards going to the charities.

Sheila opened her first shop in Alderley Edge, and received the MBE in 1995 for her work.

Sheila said: “So many people like to buy charity Christmas cards and do their bit this time of year, but there is always the question of how much of the price goes to the cause.

“I think that’s why our shops have been so successful over the years, because customers know every penny they spend on cards is going where they intend.

“We invite the charities to come and sell the cards themselves, which gives them the chance to speak to customers and share a bit of what the money they raised will be used for.

“There are hundreds of designs and more than 50 charities to choose from.

“We’ve become a popular fixture on the high street with our pop-up shops, and find many familiar faces coming back year after year.

“We have businesses purchasing charity cards, and a growing customer base among children and young people who want to do something good for others at Christmas. We’re so grateful for their support.”

The shops open at Wilmslow Library from October 28 to December 9 and The Curzon from November 4 to December 7.

Volunteers will be manning the shops at libraries in Wilmslow, Macclesfield, Hale, Sale and Altrincham and the Curzon.

On sale will be cards produced by 55 charities, and volunteers aim to raise thousands of pounds, with any costs being covered by the sale of other Christmas treats, such as twinkly lights, toys and stocking fillers.

Local and national good causes set to benefit this year range from health and animal charities, to those providing services for the elderly, young and vulnerable.
