RUNNERS are limbering up for Run North West’s popular Wilmslow festive 10k road race, which takes place on Sunday, November 26.

The race is on a traffic-free, point-to-point course, starting in the town centre and finishing at the same location as the popular Waters Wilmslow Half Marathon.

The race starts at 9.30am, and the scenic route heads out of Wilmslow along Knutsford Road before looping back round to Burleyhurst Lane and finishing on Sandy Lane.

Predominately flat, the course promises fast times for club and fun runners alike.

A Run North West spokesman said: “Runners are encouraged to get into the Christmas spirit, with fancy dress optional on the day.

“We’re pleased to announce the official race day partner as The Christie charity, giving runners the opportunity to raise funds for this fantastic cause or alternatively leave a toy at our Cash for Kids toy drop service at Wilmslow Leisure Centre, our race HQ.”

Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female runners, with prizes in all main age group categories.

Every runner who completes the course will receive a medal, and there will be a course record bonus of £500 for the male and females records broken on the day.

The spokesman added: “The Wilmslow 10k is a community event, embraced by the residents of Wilmslow and the surrounding areas in terms of their support and participation.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone to our sold-out event. We are partnering with The Christie charity and hope lots of our runners will support this fantastic cause.

“We wish to make every possible effort to provide easy, safe and fast parking. With over 3,000 entries it is important for us to request that if you are driving you arrive with plenty of time to spare.

“Car parking is available throughout Wilmslow, with the town centre car parks, excluding Waitrose and the train station, free to runners on a Sunday.”

The course starts in the town centre outside Hoopers and Pizza Express, heading South west along Knutsford Road, passing through the local streets of Wilmslow.

The final kilometre takes in the same finishing route as the popular Wilmslow Half Marathon, with 400m and 200m to go signs helping runners time that sprint finish.
