KEEN baker Helen Murray has enlisted the support of famous sports stars in a bid to raise more than £15,000 for charity through a cake recipe book.

Fuelled by More Cake is the second charity recipe book by Helen, from Chelford.

It features more than 50 recipes, including contributions from Strictly Come Dancing star Judy Murray, former England cricket captain Alec Stewart and Olympic cycling champion Joanna Rowsell Shand.

BBC Breakfast presenter Louise Minchin also features in the colourful book, along with Vassos Alexander from BBC Radio 2’s The Chris Evans Breakfast Show.

Helen is to launch her new book at Rise coffee shop in Wilmslow on Thursday, December 7, from 4pm to 7pm.

“I am so grateful to all the celebrities for giving me their recipes - it makes the book more special,” said Helen 34.

Helen raised £9,000 from her first book, Fuelled by Cake, but aims to smash that target with her second book.

“I hope to raise more than £15,000 from Fuelled by More Cake. I’ve had many more books printed than I did last time, and just hope people want to buy it!”

All proceeds will go to East Cheshire Hospice, Melanoma UK and Young Epilepsy.

Helen added: “A dear friend passed away at the hospice, while close family members have recently been diagnosed with melanoma and epilepsy, so I feel really passionate about raising as much money as possible.

Community fundraiser Lisa Ball said:“We are all really grateful for the support from Helen. Fundraising in the community is one of the main income streams that keeps the doors of the hospice open.

“This recipe book will be a great addition to our fundraising and we hope it raises lots of vital funds for East Cheshire Hospice.”

Helen, an amateur triathlete in her spare time, started to gather recipes for the book in September 2016.

“It’s been a lot of hard work,” she said.

“Formatting and editing each recipe has taken ages, but when an Olympian or a world champion sends you their contribution, it makes everything worthwhile.”

Recipes include salted caramel brownies, homemade energy bars, cheese scones and white chocolate and passion fruit cheesecake.

Helen said: “There’s a really great selection of recipes from some pretty cool people.

“Some are healthy, some are beyond unhealthy, but I’m a firm believer of everything in moderation.”

The book costs £10, and is available to buy at East Cheshire Hospice, Rise coffee shop in Wilmslow and Bikes N Gear in Knutsford, or online at fuelledbycake.com
