INDIAN food fans will be able to sample dishes created by an award-winning chef by visiting a Wilmslow takeaway.

Mohammud Foysal Ahmed came up with Oriental Fusion and Aroma Thawa for a Chef of the Year competition.

Mohammud is a partner and head chef at Aroma of Wilmslow in Grove Street, and his dishes were a hit with the judges.

He was one of the 11 winners of the contest organised by the Bangladesh Caterers Association, being named North West Chef of the Year.

Mohammud said: “I am so proud to win BCA’s Chef of the Year Award for our region.

“The competition was tough, and now I want people to come and experience our food and support the British curry industry – cooking is our first love.

"I'm very proud to have received this award from such a prestigious organisation, and the two award-winning dishes went down very well with the judges.

“I'm passionate about using quality ingredients and fresh produce as they are an integral part of the richness and the flavour of the dishes.

“I would like to thank my family and my team at Aroma for their support."

Mohammud received the award at the Park Plaza Hotel in Westminster, and was accompanied by his family and Aroma partner Syed Samsul Kabir.

“We have been in partnership for five years, and this is our second year at Aroma – we are delighted to have won,” said Syed.

The BCA Awards are in their 12th year, and the Chef Awards are highly regarded by the Bangladeshi curry industry.

The winning chefs were recognised for their innovation, presentation of food, hygiene standards and customer service, and had to compete with thousands of entrants.

The competing chefs were shortlisted to 47 finalists who took part in a live ‘cook off’ at Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College. From this the 11 winners were chosen.

The award’s night was attended by 1,200 guests and co-hosted by celebrities Tasmin Lucia Khan and Alexis Conran.

Kamal Yakub, president, BCA said: “Our awards showcase the talent of these extremely hardworking chefs. They have a lot to be proud of - they are inspiring the next generation of curry chefs.”

Oli Khan, secretary general, BCA said: “BCA is an industry leader, where our awards are like the Oscars. It is exciting to be able to acknowledge the fantastic work of these winning chefs who are making curry great.”
