The eighth annual Alderley Edge May Fair will have a wedding theme to it this year, to celebrate the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Children are encouraged to dress up as princes, princesses, brides or grooms for the traditional parade through the village, which will be held on Saturday, May 19, at 11am. There will be a marching band, military vehicles and floats from local businesses, followed by a day of activities on the park and throughout the village.

The afternoon will also see the National Festival Circus put on three shows at 1.30pm, 3pm and 4.30pm, as well as traders, stalls, a dog show, a fun fair and live music from Liam McClair, Gypsy River Band and Jenem.

Paul Marshall, chairman of the Alderley Edge May Fair committee, said: “Our main focus this year is to encourage the local and wider community to visit – not just the May Fair on the park but also the traders in the village.

“Over the course of the day we hope to see more movement of people throughout the village to promote everything we have to offer.”

For those not wanting to miss the Royal wedding, the event will be shown live in the park on a giant video screen and, for football fans, the FA Cup final, which kicks off in the evening, will be screened in various venues in the village.

The build-up to the fair will start on Saturday, May 5, with May Fair dance at the Festival Hall. For the third consecutive year, live music will be provided by the Swing Commanders.

The dance is a ticketed event, and food will be provided. Tickets for the dance are £15, for information call Diana on 01625 585600.

The May Fair weekend will then kick-off on Friday, May 18, with an evening of live music and sporting events, including a bowling competition, a five-a-side football tournament and a 5k fun run. All funds raised from the run will go to the East Cheshire Hospice. Local traders also have plenty of surprises in store as festivities continue into Friday night.
