A SUPERMARKET turned pink this weekend in an effort to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Tesco Extra Handforth Dean, as well as stores around the UK, dedicated the weekend to raising money for the charity with stalls, activities, fancy dress and competitions, all while dressed in bright pink outfits.

Across the weekend, more than £666 was raised for Cancer Research UK.

Kaz Slater, community champion at Tesco Extra Handforth Dean, said: “The idea is to make the weekend yours, so we had a CRUK merchandise stall, a tombola where everything was pink, a pink-clothed Zumba dance troupe hosted by Anne Hill, and local Race for Life information.”

The Zumba class, all in pink of course, brought the foyer of the store to a standstill, with local ladies all getting involved in the 30-minute routine, led by Bramhall Zumba Troupe leader Anne Hill.

The weekend also shared details on upcoming Race for Life events, Cancer Research UK’s series of women-only events which raise money for research in all 200 types of cancer. The next Race for Life event is a 5k run in Stockport Woodbank Park on Tuesday, May 15.

Over the past 16 years, Tesco and Cancer Research UK has raised more than £40 million for the charity, with more than £20 million of the total being raised through the successful sponsorship of Race for Life.
