WILMSLOW Library is looking for volunteers to join the team to help run this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.

The Summer Reading Challenge is a national scheme which encourages children to keep reading over the summer holidays.

Volunteers aged 14 and over are needed at Wilmslow, Handforth and Alderley Edge libraries to help with events and activities over the summer period during the scheme.

The volunteers will help run the challenge, talk to children and their parents about books and support the library staff.

Marg Charlesworth, librarian at Wilmslow Library, said: “In 2017 we had over 650 children taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge and we are hoping for even more this year.

“We have been fortunate to have received funding from Wilmslow Town Council, which means we will be able to provide incentives for the children to encourage them along, and we’ll also be putting on loads of events.”

This year’s theme for the Summer Reading Challenge is ‘Mischief Makers’, inspired by the much-loved, iconic children’s title The Beano, which celebrates its 80th anniversary in 2018.

Marg added: “Anyone thinking of volunteering is welcome to phone for a chat or pop in to the library. We need Summer Reading Challenge volunteers for Wilmslow, Handforth and Alderley Edge libraries.”
