A CHINESE restaurant run by two brothers in Alderley Edge has officially been awarded the title of ‘Best Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year’ by the Golden Chopsticks awards.

Yu Alderley Edge won the award at the event held in London last week at the Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square.

The awards are the first of their kind to celebrate oriental cuisines in the UK. Founded by Gok Wan, with Oriental food specialist Lucy Mitchell and industry expert Sarah Lewis, the awards were established to recognise Asian food in the UK and give it its own awards platform for the first time.

Vinny Yu, co-owner of Yu Alderley Edge, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have been named ‘Best Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year’ at the Golden Chopsticks awards. It makes it even more special to have been given the title by such an esteemed set of judges including Ken Hom, Ching-He Huang, Fuschia Dunlop, Jeremy Pang and Simon Rimmer.”

The majority of the awards were judged by public vote, with only a handful of prestigious awards – including ‘Best Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year’ – being headed up by a panel of celebrity judges.

Vinny added: “We noticed when we opened Yu that there was a gap in the market to bring Oriental fine dining to Alderley and do something different.

“We feel we’ve reflected that desire with creative, delicious dishes, such as our Champagne Miso Black Cod, and we aim to celebrate traditional Chinese cuisine, whilst adding our own modern twist.”

Yu Alderley Edge was launched by brothers Victor and Vinny Yu in November 2015, described as a dining concept, it features a sleek cocktail bar and a 100-seat restaurant.
