VILLAGERS have been thanked for their support for this year’s Alderley Edge May Fair.

Organiser Paul Marshall said: “Thanks to the amazing effort of our organising committee we were able to provide more entertainment than ever while still sticking with our promise that we do not charge a penny for entry.

"As always, the village and surrounding areas have been so supportive. Traders joined in, local sponsors were very generous and the public came down to enjoy the party. It's a great start to the summer."

The weekend began with a sport and music evening on Friday on the park, featuring a bowling competition, The Chess 5K Fun Run, The Piccolino 5-a-side Trophy and stage entertainment from local band The Faction, Tom Ramsbottom and dance acts.

As the children enjoyed the funfair adults could relax with street food from 13 caterers and a drink under the setting sun.

Saturday's fun and games started with a parade through the village filled with colour, sound and entertainment from 400 people representing 30 groups.

Back in the park a giant screen showed a live broadcast of the Royal wedding.

The audience relaxed in the sunshine on picnic blankets and deckchairs to watch the spectacle from Windsor.

Elsewhere, in the park the festival continued with zorb balls, a medieval history museum, donkey rides, a dog show, live music, artisan traders, vintage vehicles, bumper cars, dance performances, a fairground and the National Festival Circus.
