FOLLOWING the cancellation of the race on March 18 due to overnight snow, the rescheduled Waters Wilmslow Half Marathon will now take place on Sunday, June 24.

The organisers have been working hard to put everything in place to make the new date a success.

There are a limited number of race places still available. Visit wilmslowhalfmarathon.org.uk. It may be hot, so please be prepared.

At the elite end of the field the first to finish (male and female), will receive £1,000 each, with a further £500 if the course record is broken.

For the men that’s 61.52, set in 2004 by Isaac Macharia, or 72.02 set by Michelle Ross-Cope for the women.

One of the new race initiatives this year is the Corporate Challenge, open to groups in the area, and a mixture of schools and business. The Porsche Centre Wilmslow are the sponsors.

Expressions of interest are requested from organisations wanting to get involved in the race activities, with the intention of creating a real community feel.

As always the race committee works hard to ensure minimum disruption takes place to help residents.

One such business, The Colony on Altrincham Road, just up from the finish line, will be opening its doors to runners and their families as a place to relax and unwind post run.

The gates will be open from 9am, with parking available for a small charge, and family members are welcome to wait in the venue while runners complete the course.

Once finished there will be a barbecue which will be included in the entry fee. For information call 01625 254000 or email enquiries@thecolonyhq.co.uk

The race organisers wish to stress a number of certain points.

Road closures will affect traffic on race day; even with roads open, please use alternative routes, if you are running, car share and get to the start very early; where possible travel by train (20 minutes’ walk from the start).

This year the chosen lead charity for the race is The Christie Foundation. The race organisers are as always grateful of the support provided by lead sponsors Waters, but also to Running Imp and Running Bear of Alderley Edge and Porsche Centre, Wilmslow.

A closure will be in force on the day covering all roads in the Kings Road/Altrincham Road area, and on the course itself as it winds towards Mobberley before heading back to finish on Morley Road Wilmslow.
