FOURTH Handforth Brownies visited Handforth Station for a tour – and a spot of gardening.

The Brownies were shown the station’s flags and Platform for Art – including sculptures, the Rotary Garden and station signs from across the UK and Europe.

When not waving to passengers and staff on passing trains, the girls learned about the station’s 176 year history and even got to a spot of seed planting in the flowerbed next to the 1950’s vintage platform sign.

Andrew Backhouse, chair of Friends of Handforth Station, said: “It was great that a bed first planted by the Guides got new seeds planted by the Brownies - Guides in waiting. We love getting young people involved in their local station.”

Jacquie Scobie, leader of the Brownie Unit added: “The girls enjoyed their visit to the station and found it really interesting and informative.”
