TESCO shoppers are invited to offer bags of help to a school, The David Lewis Centre and Scouts.

Alderley Edge Community Primary School, The David Lewis Centre and 5th Cheadle Hulme Scouts have been chosen for the Bags of Help scheme until October 31.

You can support the groups at the following Tesco stores - Handforth Dean Extra, Wilmslow Express, Handforth Express, Alderley Edge Express, Dean Row Express and Bramhall Express (in the petrol station).

A parent helper at Alderley Edge Community Primary School said: “The school is very lucky to have a woodland area which the children from the school, the adjacent preschool and other community groups use to learn about the wild environment.

“I am a parent helper with the school’s Wild Environment Club and volunteered to do maintenance in the woods.

“The school then asked if I could help re-establish the dried-up pond. With the help of other parents and grandparent volunteers we have cleared the area of brambles and found a fantastic-sized pond.

“The school has since discovered a landscape drawing of the pond and woods from the 90s showing the location of the original dipping platforms.

“It is so exciting to see the enthusiasm in the school for their woods, and we want to refill the pond so the plant and wildlife can thrive.”

A David Lewis Centre spokesman said: “David Lewis is asking voters to help raise money for the residents’ memorial project.

“This project entails redeveloping the area and having a new sensory fountain installed, that has been chosen by the residents of the centre.

“It will be a space where residents, visitors, friends and family can take time to reflect and remember loved ones who have passed away.

“The fountain will be made of stone, featuring coloured lights in the water bowl and around the fountain, giving a peaceful look as the light fades.

“This area sits in the middle of the grounds and is a focal point for all to share - within this area we have ashes interned, as well as memorials to those no longer with us who have lived at the centre.”

A 5th Cheadle Hulme Scouts spokesman said: “We have applied for funding as in the past nine months our group has grown from 12 children to 30.

“We want to upgrade and replace our main equipment as it is quite old, and we don't have enough tents for 30 teenagers to sleep in.”

At the Handforth Dean store the voting box is emptied twice weekly.
