MORE than 100 people have pledged to join a new Friends of Winsford Town Park group.

Volunteers were encouraged to help develop the green space which has received a £900,000 refurbishment.

A public meeting is being held at 6.30pm on Thursday September 20 at The Dingle Centre on High Street to elect a committee and form a constitution.

Winsford resident John Malam, who proposed the idea of setting up the group, is delighted so many volunteers have signed up to help.

Now the group needs to be made official so it can get recognition and start seeking grants.

John said: "This housekeeping work will put the Friends on a firm footing and will mean a bank account can be opened and funding applied for.

"Ideally the committee should comprise up to 12 people.

"As for the constitution, the simplest and easiest route is to adapt an existing constitution as used by another similar organisation."

He said a local solicitor with experience in community groups and governance has examined a similar one and says it could be adapted.

Copies of the proposed constitution will be available at Thursday's meeting.

Winsford Town councillors pledged their support for the group at a meeting on Monday evening.

Town council clerk Mark Bailey offered to act as a contact between the council and the group as it gets established.

Anyone wishing to be involved with the group can call John on 01606 863540 or e-mail hello@fowtp.co.uk or join the Facebook page Friends of Winsford Town Park.
