MANCHESTER Airport has resumed flights after temporarily closing both runways due to ‘heavy snowfall’.

Flights were either grounded or diverted as work to clear the snow took place.

Passengers are still being advised to check with their airline for the latest information.

In a statement released on social media, the airport said: “Following the temporary closure of our runways due to snow, we are pleased to report that operations have resumed.

“We thank passengers for their patience.

“Passengers should continue to contact their airline for the most up-to-date flight information.”

The snowfall has also caused delays on the M56 in and around the airport.

Temperatures plunged below minus 10C in parts of the UK overnight amid warnings of snow, ice and travel disruption.
